I was looking around for the right site, but couldn't find it. Essentially, OS X 10.4 and under cannot update to the latest Java. So trying to play Minecraft sort of fails when using a browser. Works just fine using the client (but that isn't free). However, now looking around the internet it seems Apple might have made that Java version work, so I recommend checking the Software Update program. Java is distributed through that instead of installed from a downloaded file.
PS: Perhaps some time soon I will record a video of my current (and maybe past as well) base. The one I have now is locked down tight, I actually bumped the difficulty up in an attempt to have some sort of combat. It's quite creepy digging new transport tunnels and hearing groaning and rattling bones on the other side of a wall... And amazingly, I have built quite a bit of stuff using almost no iron whatsoever. I think I have a bucket, and that's it. My two current improvement projects are digging a giant shaft to the top of a mountain so I can grow trees underground, and digging a transport tunnel way off the side of my base to start a strip mining operation. Eventually I'll set up a minecart track all the way to the bottom of the shaft, with boosters to bring it back up. It's gonna take a while.
Meanwhile, I have been thinking about starting a new world and creating an absolutely enormous base in Peaceful mode. The challenge is mining everything instead of using Creative mode's infinite blocks. Something about as big as thing, but not as complicated. Think really, really big fortress, possibly spherical (lawlz... Death Star)
