He was also taught the inferior systems for measuring temperatures, weights, distances, volumes, velocities, keeping time and writing dates. Brilliant.

Oh I get it, so America is just a mindless NPC village and Africa is inhabited by zombies. But the Middle East, that's where the creepers come from.
IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW

It's not your fault man. But your country is pretty much where Chirstianity started, is it not?

I was actually quite surprised. Brazil is an extremely religious country, but the anthem contains no mention of it. And back then new countries were all about the religion.

"The star-spangled flag you parade"
LAWL. Perhaps a different translation would have been better. But that is technically what that says...

I need to get to speaking Portuguese... Perhaps I should start with the national anthem. Which is a frickin awesome anthem, btw.

Way better then our lame "Stars and Stripes". I'm sorry, but we could have done better. Even "America the Beautiful" would have been better.

Also, while searching for a good version, came across this one. Thought I might take a listen.

Also quite good, though I still prefer Brazil. And America just needs to try again. -_-

YOU HAVE NO SHAME?

IN WHAT YOU SAY?

OH THE HUMANITY.

Also, shame is female.

Garcon/fille, I guess I can see your point with the softer words. But il and elle, not much different.

It isn't very complicated to figure out, and its purpose is to give more elegance to the language.

Doesn't it sound better to describe females with a softer word and males with a stronger one?
The English language demonstrates this in its cultural conventions in some way too, for instance handsome versus pretty (although they do cross over, it is more common to call males handsome and females pretty or beautiful). But in french, rather than using different words, the same words can be used differently.

Then going with that, some nouns sound softer and some harsher.
