Yes it is, when I played Halo with my computer teacher, I already had Halo Full and he got it by E-mailing Bungie, they sent him the program and a serial number.

Updating now...

And watching Yoda hopping around like a bunny on steroids battling Count Douku. And I doubt they would give you the source code.

The mere fact that a game is no longer in original-manufacturer production (I.E. Being sold by Bungie or Mac) doesn't mean that the copyrights and other protections on the material are invalid. Unless Bungie lifts the copyrights on Halo for PC, or there is a clause stating that upon ceasing production the game's copyrights are invalid, it remains illegal to take material from the full version of Halo and put it into Halo Demo.

If you want the explanation of why we can't do this in the first place, let me know.

They will not. They still have not lifted it for Oni, it will be 15 years before they do it for halo 1.

Please explain, but in a new topic. I don't remember there being a clause that allowed for modifying the application or its contents in the first place, so I would imagine that modding Halo or Halo Demo would be illegal. That infamous "no modifications in whole or part" clause comes to mind, which would prohibit modding, in general.

Perhaps we should write to Bungie and request special permission to include a limited number of objects (specified by tag type, ie., scen, vehi and weap) in our demo maps that were included in Halo Full. Otherwise, they should realize that we use our own created content and so they may want us to include a notice saying that our map may contain content not actually available in the full version. If, on the other hand, they don't care, then I see no reason why we cannot use the Full version items. Please explain your reasoning, Moxus, because while I understand the points made, those points would also prohibit ANY mod making. The term "derivative work" also comes to mind.

I'd like to see a written statement by Bungie that can be posted as an announcement at the top of our Halo Demo forum. (Just an idea.) Let's have the letter to Bungie signed by all our halo modders at MGM, so they can better understand the scope of what we do.

Please explain in a new topic.

Then let me put it this way: Do you want to dig yourself a bigger hole?

Edit: By-the-way, I found this while going through the Halo Demo Xiph License: "Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met..."

That would lead me to believe that as long as we attribute to the following conditions, modification is legal. If anyone is interested, I can list the conditions provided in the License.

Edit 2: The word "Modification" is not found in any Halo Demo License or ReadMe Documents.

Edit 3: Nor is "derivative work."

Yes, list them in the new topic you made.
