Thank you. and i think we need someone who has areally good knowleage of hex *Hint Modzy* to tell us how to do things in hex and how to generally use it efficiently.

No what we need is to start using old tools again :roll:

Now that eschaton has been out, everyone has stopped releasing mods because, they don't think there good enough because all they did is import some crap and change some meta and floats.

I think we need to come up with more and better themes for mods. The coolness is in the theme and usability.

I actually agree with Mr Rant on some parts. not the old tools part, well maybe Hex but not HMT.
And i agree on the second part. and Sparkys idea for themes sound great.

Well what I think the main problem is (appart from this:

We need to do more research. We have had the same knowledge about halo maps as we did....like 3 years ago. I think that looking around in hex would be a good way to find out new things about halo demo. But the problem is, most of us dont know how to use hex edit. I think that if one of the smart pepuls posted a tut or something that would be appreciated *cough. Also, about what modzy said, i think that would be a good route to start leaning towards, as you can only do so much with only being able to edit content thats already there. We need the CE tools on mac...

I tried it and it works but for some reason with the banshee, when I enter it it makes a loud deafening sound and then freezes after modification. Very buggy.

And to your subject:
Hex is simple for those with patience. You don't need to learn much about it to know how to use it. Yet to master it, it takes a while. You don't have to be an advanced modder to know how to use it. However, most of us aren't patient, maybe all of us. So we put off learning this and have other people do the work for us. That's why most modding apps were made. Again, with a little patience, you can learn hex. This is how I learned (not mastered) applescript, hex, batch, DOS, PHP, UNIX (including commands not listed in help), and this code that SilverCreator uses.

If you want to learn something, have the patience for it.

Learning hexadecimal is not the issue. It's learning how the mapfile structure is organized and recognizing patterns in data that indicate something unrecorded. For example noticing a reflexive, or an integer that always seems to relate to a value from another section of the tag (indexes).

exactly^. I understand how to use hex but I couldn't find anyone who would teach me how to find "new" things in hex. Aka understand what all the parts of the map do.

O and btw:

1A in hex is not 16 decimal. 10 in hex would be 16 in decimal.
