Cyber, you speak of such days prior to OSX and the various updates that have created restrictions on the use of third-party audio software in conjunction with GameRanger. However, your account registration on GameRanger reflects a fact that your account did not exist during such days of past. Did you originally become a user of GameRanger on an account that preceeds the account that you currently use? If so, then why do you choose not to make use of it? Don't know about you, but lower is better..YAR.

BTW: Sorry, Ranger, for creating an irrelevant tangent in your thread. I'm just a Curious George ;).

Talk to Evill on gr, he has in the past offered people a one month trial period to try premium out. the catch is you pay up front and if you don't want it after the month is over you get your money back. I have been a premium member for 2 years. I think it's worth the $50.

Has anyone tried Mumble (http://mumble.sourceforge.net)?

It's an open source solution that looks very promising!

Most people use Teamspeak now which the Mac version wasn't available when this topic was originally started.

Yes, I know about Teamspeek/TeamSpeeX ( http://savvy.nl/beta/TeamSpeex-1.0beta-r406.dmg ), but

a) it is proprietary technology / not open source
b) there is only an unofficial third-party beta that does not seem to be developed any more
c) the Mac version is client-only (no Mac-installable server available)

Mumble has none of the above disadvantages.

Yes, that is true. Depending on the game alot of the Mac users use the built-in voice chat in GameRanger. It would be interesting to see if they would prefer this over TS or Ventrilo.

But GameRanger's voice communication is a feature only available for paid premium accounts ( http://www.gameranger.com/premium/ ), whereas Mumble is free! :)
