TRAINRIDE

Post by deleyt » Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:20 pm

TRAINRIDE

About a year ago I had this revolutionary idea for a GR-mod.
It was about clearing a train full of hostiles and coming out on top.

Nothing exciting I hear you say?
Well, I might add that the train is moving while you're fighting your way through it 8)

Like I did with White-Skull Valley, I like to push boundaries and doing things that haven't been done before in GR.

So, after some modding I'm proud to present the second preview-movie to show exactly what I had in mind all this time adn to show the progress that has been made:

Have fun watching

Freaking awesome. I love that you can go from train to train. Is there only one way to go between the trains, just the wooden plank? If it is, I would suggest one other way so that spot doesn't become a bottleneck for players trying to get across. There are so many things I like. 8) The sliding doors, the 2 levels, and the train whistle. :rocker:

Thanks.

This is just one passenger train.
I will add more in a while, so multiple entrypoints wil be possible.

Chokingpoints are inevitable on this map though as the area is very long but small in width.

Nice CHOO CHOO !!!!
cant wait to try it, ( even if its not really a sniping map )
im sure i will have lots of fun with my sniper rifle. would be cool if we would be able to acces the roof of the passenger cars,
and also fell from it. or get bang on the head on low bridges
mission could be detatch a car that have a bomb inside,
maibe taking fire from tango on the ground . while car is running, etc.

- The passenger-trains don't have access to the roof as they already have 2 levels inside the trains.
- You can not fall from any of the trains.
- You can not get hit on the head by low obstacles, like bridges.
- Boxcars will not detach from the rest of the train.
- You will get shot from tango's outside the train, but rather then being from a car, it will be from a helicopter.

I know this will sound like sour grapes - but anyone else here played 'Unreal Tournament' at all?

...Yes, you guessed it - theres a TDM map on a moving train. One team defends the 'base' in the lead car and engine...While the other team drop from a helicopter onto the rear-most car and have to fight thier way up the train.

Having said this...Well done for bringing this excellent map to the world of Ghost Recon.

Ranger, this map isn't a port of a UT map. Also what makes this map even cooler is Ghost Recon doesn't allow easy coding for moving objects like in UT. When Deleyt's site comes back online check out the video. It is awesome.

Apologies to all - especially deleyt...

I think the TRAIN idea is a fantastic addition to the GhR universe - and I didn't mean that I thought it was a 'port' (you can't port UT maps into GR)...

I simply meant to say that the idea had been done in UT first.

But good on you deleyt - and thanks for pending all that time providing ungrateful folk like me with fantastic new maps!

;)

No problem.
I never really played UT so it could well be that UT had a similar concept.

You can be asured that Trainride will be an original for GR though, in both concept and design.
All models, textures and sounds are custom and is not a port from any other game or platform.

I'm working on getting the site back up, so you might want to download the movie and take a sneak-preview about what's to come

I've created a new additional environment for Trainride.
You can see the preview in this movie:

PS: the video/audio quality is really poor due to reducing filesize for download.
The video requires the DivX-codec.

Great environment. Nice touch with the over-hangs and the light coming out of the train windows.
