My iMac G5 is probably deceased.

Feel free to talk about anything and everything in this board.

Well, DUH, getting a new computer would be better than upgrading. But I have no idea how long it is gonna take him to get a new Mac so I offered a suggestion.

The 4 GB was mainly for speed and processing. It went fast...

You're definitely right.

Well, if there was nothing "wrong" with your computer, then upgrading it wouldn't have been a horrible option. You can get decent amounts of ram for sub $100. Which probably would have given you the performance boost you might have been looking for. However, since there is clearly something faulty with your machine, then buying a newer one certainly appears to be more logical.

Scan lines... and not being able to boot up properly.. sounds like your logic board or ram imho.

*Could always check craigslist for base model g5 to replace your board as well as add some more ram etc.*

Have you tried booting into verbose mode to see where it's hanging/fucking up? Or does it not even get a chance to post?

It happens when I boot from the DVD as well. Verbose mode probably won't help.

Edit: Verbose mode doesn't give any errors.

Upgrading it just seems like a waste of money, on something that is faulty, outdated (powerpc), and very slow in every way compared to current Macs.

On a G5, most users won't need to use more than 2 GB of RAM, thus having any more additional RAM that you don't utilize doesn't help improve performance.

[edit]: Nowadays, on newer Macs, however, I would say that most users won't need to use more than 4 GB of RAM - twice as much RAM is needed, as we've been moving more and more into 64-bit processors and OS's.
I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

If this had been said instead of "How about a nice game of chess", I think that entire near-apocalyptic nuclear accident could have been completely prevented.

Looks like I'm down for 8-15 months until I get a new Mac.

The Mac functions 95%, but it has been replaced by an HP Pavilion for now and is disconnected from the Ethernet. For now, I'm only able to post in the forums. Sorry.
