Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
Surprised no one has created a thread about it yet. It is expected to be released in the summer.
Basic feature list: http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/
It really will be a big change I think. Here are a few interesting things that have been confirmed:
-Like in Windows, it is now possible to resize windows from more than one side with the mouse cursor (I'm not really sure how this works).
-By default, applications in the dock do not have an indicator of being open. Probably to emphasize that it doesn't matter.
-Very early Intel macs will not be supported. Lion will possibly be first OS that leaves out 32-bit computers.
-Front row is gone (I never used this).
-Java doesn't come installed by default anymore, but you will be prompted to install it if you try to open a java application I think.
-Rosetta is no longer supported. This means that PPC applications such as Halo Demo will not be able to run (shock!).

I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

No. It has to do with maintainability. It is costly in supporting features that hardly anyone ever uses, or features that serve no purpose for the future.

I used front row a bit... it was pretty cool, sucks to see it go. Same with Rosetta and the dock icons. :/
Well I hope there's alot of better stuff to come. I'll be replacing my Macbook soon, so we'll see.

Re: Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
I've heard about this from my dad a while ago, but wasn't sure of the features. Thanks for the list.
However I did know about the iPad style "LaunchPad". I don't really see myself using it a lot though...
The "Resume" seems handy to me.
Now theres a question of my computer being able to support it. I'm on a Macbook 2.1, on a Intel Core 2 Duo. Does this mean i still can run Lion? I like my trackpad, but it can't do any of the gestures now (like swipe 4 fingers down, and all that stuff).

I think your computer will be able to run Lion.

Mines from 2006, but i'm not sure I want lion... Seems like downgrading too me.
Re: Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
It seems like you can still have the dock indicators for open applications. It's just off by default.

I'll be honest, I hate this.
They've taken a good thing and simplified it way too much. In fact, Apple flat out says so right in the beginning by comparing it to the iPad.
I suppose it's the only direction computers can go anyway.

Guys my dad has it, and he said that it's all configurable so its not like forcing your computer to be like an ipad with the app viewer thingie or whatever. Ill try to go to my dads office and check it out for myself sometime.

Re: Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
I got it the day the became available. Used it for a few days, tested everything out, blah, blah, blah. I'm not the biggest fan of it. The new window resize is kind of ugly, Mission Control is quite buggy, and LaunchPad, folders, and most animations LAG THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYTHING AND ARE NOT SMOOTH EVEN ON MACS AS NEW AS 2009. I always used Front Row for DVDs and playing iTunes music, sad that's gone. Don't care about Java. And, well, I'm extremely upset about Rosetta being gone. Many of my old application, which I still use and are no longer developed for, will not work. What makes it worse, is that any other applications that do have more recent versions will require me to pay at least $100 for the latest. I could seriously mutilate babies out of the angry this brings me.
I am glad the indicators are gone, that is welcome.

^way to steal my thunder!
jkjkjkjk.
I don't see the point in having indicators gone, what does that accomplish...

^For me, I get a cleaner dock which is already rather clean. Also, I'm sick of the indicator under the finder icon.
Re: Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
I never used to have the indicator under my finder icon... then again, I never had finder open.

Is there something I'm missing?
The indicator shows what's running so I know why my computer's being so god damn slow.
Why are they exiling it?
It's just a small white orb.
