What kind of memory.
Just pulled an all-nighter and am using my iPad's keyboard so the following is probably not going to make any sense. So in order for me to have Lion, I need more memory. I know how to add the memory, but I was on Apple.com and their specifications on what was and what was not compatible were pretty intimidating. So can u guys tell me exactly what kind of memory I'm looking for? I need the memory to be: Two side-by-side Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) slots in the bottom of the computer.
The maximum amount of random-access memory (RAM) you can install in the computer is:
Computer Memory Type Maximum Memory
iMac (Early 2008) DDR2 4GB (2x2GB)
Use Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SO-DIMM) that meet all of these criteria:
iMac (Early 2008)
PC2-6400
Unbuffered
Nonparity
200-pin
800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
DIMMs with any of the following features are not supported:
Registers or buffers
PLLs
Error-correcting code (ECC)
Parity
Extended data out (EDO) RAM
That's why I need ur help. I have no clue what that just said.

I don't really know what that is either, but if your computer is that old, I'm unsure how well it'd run Lion (but it will) You will want at least 4 GB of RAM by the way, the max that your computer supports.

4 GB of RAM? Oh no...will this be a problem for me?nil wrote:I don't really know what that is either, but if your computer is that old, I'm unsure how well it'd run Lion (but it will) You will want at least 4 GB of RAM by the way, the max that your computer supports.
I'm running a Macbook 2.1, with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16 GHz processor speed, with 2 GB Memory. Will I be able to run it smoothly?

Your computer is much newer, so it will be smoother than his. I'm sure that Lion wouldn't run too slowly, you would just have a hard time managing multiple applications at once.

What a shitty thread
Fuck all of you.
Re: What kind of memory.
I agree with Ghosts, in particular about managing multiple applications. I recommend 4 GB if you want a smoother experience, but 2 GB should be doable. I'd say the same to snow leopard (10.6) as well. So if your snow leopard experience is fine, your Lion may be as well. (1 GB was the minimum for snow leopard because it still supported 32-bit Macs which need half as much RAM as 64-bit ones). Or maybe Lion really does eat more RAM, who knows.
For reference, Apple still sells Macs with 2 GB of RAM, but note that the only ones that they're selling this with currently are the lowest end models of the macbook air and mac mini.
[EDIT]:
But if your computer is that old, another thing to think about, is instead of upgrading to wait until whenever you decide to buy a new Mac.

Ugh, I have that same exact configuration. Honestly, I think it's better to upgrade the RAM on that MacBook to 4 GB of DDR3 and THEN run Lion. I've got to virtualize a lot of RAM under this 2 GB config. >_<
Re: What kind of memory.
2008 is THAT old...? =\
Re: What kind of memory.
Not extremely old, but after experience with holding onto machines for too long, I think 3.5 - 4 years is a good release cycle at max and a good time to consider a new one. That is about the time Apple starts cutting off features anyway for old hardware.
RAM upgrade could be cheap though, and it may or may not run Lion fine, can't really predict. You will definitely *want* at least 4 GB anyway in my opinion.

I know that I need at least 2 GBs of RAM. Because when zI tried downloading it from thte app store it said that I needed at least 2 GBs of RAM to run it.
But if guys can't tell me, then I'll just run out to the Apple Store and ask them (I just hope they don't give me something overpriced).
