30 days of Gaming
Re: 30 days of Gaming
Day 30: You want a video game? Okay, then Operation Flashpoint- Red River.
But my favourite thing of all time... X-Plane. Because the possibilities are endless.

Day 30:
I have to agree with Smythe. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
However, I would also add that it is almost necessary to play OoT back-to-back with Majora's Mask, because they are both awesome and I came incredibly close to putting down MM instead of OoT anyway. They go together, same engine, awesome games, amazing experiences.
Games I may not have mentioned during this but think deserve a mention:
-Borderlands
-Viewtiful Joe
-Minecraft
-Golden Sun
-007 Goldeneye
-Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie
-Donkey Kong Country, 1, 2, and 3
-Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
-Cave Story
-Metroid Prime series
-Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid
-Metroid: Other M, despite its shortcomings
-Animal Crossing
-Super Smash Bros. series
-Fallout 3 and New Vegas (just finished New Vegas, and despite what others may have said, I enjoyed it)
-Rock and Roll Racing for the SNES, just because
-Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced
-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
-Halo 1, 2, and 3, plus ODST and Reach. Enjoyed them all, thanks Bungie.
-Starfox 64
-Super Mario 64
-Hell, even Donkey Kong 64 wasn't bad back in the day
-Star Wars Podracing. For the lulz. Debug mode is a must.
-Diddy Kong Racing
-Portal
... Alright I'm done.

Re: 30 days of Gaming
30 - For me, a great game is a game that I can play and actually feel happy playing it. Portal is not a game that can be realistically played for more than 10ish hours, but I enjoyed a hell of a lot more than the hundreds of hours I spend in Battlefield games. Thus, the games that I truly enjoy playing would be a toss-us between Portal 1 and 2, Oblivion/Fallout, ME1 and 2, Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed, Half Life, Saints Row, Red Dead, Just Cause 2, and some others.
A game has to be fun to play, not realistic, which is what many publishers are forgetting these days. An engrossing story and visceral combat is exciting, but it doesn't compare to ripping fire hydrants out of the ground and throwing them at oncoming cars, or the plethora of mods in JC2 (which developers are also neglecting) like naked strippers or explosive bubble guns.

Day 30 - Super Mario World. One of the first and best video games I have ever played and anyone who says otherwise can go suck a dick.
Of games I still play, I'm gonna go with Halo 2. Remember that? Fuck yes. Possibly Red Dead, but that hasn't exactly stood the test of time for me yet.

I don't think any games that were released in recent years can be said to have "stood the test of time," Olive, that's sort of the entire point of that expression...

Re: 30 days of Gaming
would you count 08 as recent, because I spend a shitton of time on that game.
edit: that game means gta IV

Re: 30 days of Gaming
Yes. Not that you can't put that as your Day 30, but it hasn't "stood the test of time." Standing the test of time means a game has aged well. For example: Few people could play a game like the original NES Punch Out! nowadays and say it's very good, because it just doesn't compare to any recent games. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has stood the test of time, because people can still enjoy playing it nowadays even though it's old.
Re: 30 days of Gaming
I agree, MM was an amazing game, and the whole addition of the friendship and loneliness under story made it so much more.Kayar wrote:Day 30:

Re: 30 days of Gaming
By people, do you mean the majority or a singular being?
Re: 30 days of Gaming
I mean the large amount of gamers who would agree with me. If we didn't know Halo: AE was on its way, would you go back and play Halo 1 for fun, even though it was made in 2001/2003? Probably. Would myself and many others go back and play Ocarina of Time even though it was made in 1997? Absolutely, I plan on it in fact. If/when I get a 3DS I'll probably get the 3D remake as well. Again, point being, these games have "stood the test of time."
Re: 30 days of Gaming
My copy is around here somewhere. If I had a TV I would play it right now.

Re: 30 days of Gaming
It's the same regard as one would classify a book or movie a classic.
