My high school was not a university. The University of Massachusetts which I went to last year WAS a university. I'll agree that a community college, like the one I'm at now, is somewhat like a high school in some ways, not the least of which is the fact that there are students here who are also high school students. And of course there's the fact that both are places where relatively young people go to learn, and the myriad of other similarities based purely on the fact that both a college and a high school are learning facilities. To say that college=high school, however, is a ridiculous claim. I am ten times as interested in the things I am currently learning in college than the shit classes they force you to take in high school. To compare my high school to a college is to compare an ant to a rhinoceros. A word to conclude with: workload.

Yes, it IS a lot of stress trying to get into college. Because (no offense to you, Kayar) I'm not shooting for some community college. And why wouldn't you do any of that stuff? I want to expand my knowledge, meet new people, and of course, get a job (i also here kolej secks rox ).

In Europe also the terms which are used for "high school" and "university" are different levels of study from their US translations.

In Tasmania at least, we have Primary School, High School, College, and UNI.
Primary school: years prep-6
High school: 7-10
College 11-12
Uni: University (herpdurp)

Some private schools are called colleges in their name but some of those have both primary and high school.

Vegerot: I'm at a community college NOW. Last year, my first year in college, I was at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. Before that, senior year of High School, I was shooting for Emerson College in Boston. I got wait-listed there, then found out I got in after I had already set everything up with UMASS and was pretty much attending at that point. As for community colleges, the one I'm at now has a really nice program and has served as a jumping off point for many people, who transfer from here to a four-year college after two years, something a few of my friends (very intelligent people) have done. So I wouldn't entirely discredit community colleges. In fact, I have learned more here in some classes than I did at UMASS, as UMASS uses crowded lecture halls where it's harder to hear what the professor is saying, whereas here classes are much smaller and more personal, similar to high school but, unlike high school, people here actually give a shit and don't constantly talk during class and disrespect their teacher/professor.
