Contacts

Post by Mgalekgolo » Tue Mar 27, 2012 6:40 pm

Someone here has to wear contacts or something... Anyway I have these theatrical soft lenses and i'm blinking way too much. Every time I try to get it in my eye I either blink it out or can't do it. It's been 2 straight hours of frustration, any tips?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Sorry, mate, I use anti-glare glasses. I have no insight into your dilemma. Perhaps inquire at your local glasses store? Folks at Lens Crafters are typically friendly, if you have that in your area. You could also just call up your doctor's office and ask, they probably wouldn't mind giving you some free advice.

Maybe you need more of those artificial tears? I'll ask some people i know that wear contacts.

By the way, have you ever worn them successfully? Could your body react in this way because you are scared by the contacts? Or is this something entirely physiological?

I've never wore contacts, and I never got them to go in. I'll try again later today.

Slight grammar fix, and good luck! But don't force yourself; there is typically a "nicer" way to do these things.

Holy shit I'm as scared as heck whenever anything goes near my eye. That's why I'm glad I have 20/20 vision. It looks as scary as hell whenever I see my sister put them in.

I don't need no artificial lenses in OR on me eyes.
The armaments which thunderstrike the walls
And monarchs tremble in their capitals.
The oak leviathans, whose huge ribs make
Of lord of thee, and arbiter of war;
Alike the Armada's pride, or spoils of Trafalgar.

mgal: Come on, there's no reason to fear contacts!
well, actually there is..? Experience teaches that objects approaching eyes aren't ever a pleasurable thing, but with contacts it's different! They are specifically designed objects that fit your eye. All you have to do is put them *on* your eyes.

Do you have any contact-wearing friend that can help you your first time? I don't wear contacts, but I have seen some humans do it. The most common way i've observed is to watch yourself horizontally in a mirror and do something like this:

Then, i don't know! what did google say about this? also: your doctor???
I'll ask to some friends of mine how do they do it, if you want.

Make sure you disinfect your hands first, then simply put your contact-lense-holding finger on your eye, as if you're just watching your finger getting larger in your sight. As long as you have the contact lens there and it and your hands are clean, there's no problem.

These things take weeks to get used to; you'll probably have bloodshot eyes for a while. Try the "breathing" kind, where the lenses do not inhibit the airflow and circulation to the eye. Such lenses you can more quickly adjust to, since the duration of irritation would be shorter. I'm not a specialist, but I've heard people say they don't like the "flexible" kind. But others say they use them all the time and they're fine. There are sometimes issues with the contacts moving around, where you would need to take them out and put them back in, but the only thing I'd say is to wash your hands first before putting your hands anywhere near your face in general.
