Gun that Shoots Round Corners? I want one for GR!

Post by [BIG] Ranger » Wed Dec 17, 2003 2:02 am

Found this on the BBC web site, 'New Weapon Can Fire Round Corners' - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3324893.stm

The barrel of the gun can be adjusted to 'peek' round corners...Genius innovation?

No, in fact the German Army came up with this idea first in WWII and tried it out on the Russian Front, specifically for the devestating street fighting that was going on there.

They used a long curved barrel and optical sight mounted on a modified Sturmgewehr 44 (StG44)...

Nothing is really new is it!

OICW - too expensive, too heavy and too late!

Unfortunately the Pentagon doesn't agree with you...It looks like (according to Janes Defence) that OICW may be shelved in favour of the H&K X8 series.

I am just doing a new topic on this new weapon family (based on the excellent H&K G36). Check it out to see what the US Army will be replacing the M16 & M4s with!

LOL Hardedge...

Actually I never thought about the 'in-game physics' of the game guns. And of course you are right...

Though I prefer the 'Navy Seals' M4 in GR (the silenced version)...The OICW does have the great ability to lay down suppression fire with grenades. Though I haven't played RS so I don't know what special abilities the game weapon has that the GR OICW doesn't...

How it works in a team GR game is one trooper with the OICW would lay down covering fire with a volley of grenades while his team advances to a position...What is called a 'creeping barrage'...

It's to make up for the one flaw in GR (IMHO) where you cannot 'call up' close support from artilery or air...AND the fact that light mortars are not allowed in the default 'Support' class of soldier (probably because they would 'unballance' the game).

There are some mods for the full version that have mortars. I know that WOI 2.1 does.
