Building PC

so i was supposed to get my macbook pro next month ( 2.8Ghz 4GB of ram 500GB hardrive and Nvidia 512MB card) but as the times are now ( well not really my aunt just screwed my mom) i wont be able to get it until next year. So, i made a deal with my mom that for around $1500 ( $1000 cheaper than the macbook ) if i can build the pc. and to my relef, she said yes! so im coming with with at least $300 to pay for a little bit of it. So, i would like to show ou whats going into this gaming PC and if you have any experience if you could give me any recoomendations or tips. Keep in mind this will ONLY BE USED FOR GAMING, my iMac will be used for everything else. So here it goes.

CD/DVD Burner I cheaped out on this because its just a burner...

Hardrive
Monitor Extremely fast response time
Graphics card What does SSC stand for?
PSU
Ram
MOBO
CPU
3 Nice green case fans (:
CPU Cooler

So any suggestions? in the future i plan on upgrading to a GTX 280 superclocked, and a creative sound card

For a motherboard use an acer. As for the video card, I suggest an nVidia.

Acer is a big no for motherboards, i trust Asus as they have a good reputation and this is one of the best boards out there for the socket LGA 775. And for the GPU, it is a Nvidia

Ewww, no. ATi > nVidia. 5 nVidia pixels are equal to 1 ATi.

@Mike:
I only saw three things I didn't like; graphics card, Motherboard, and your RAM.

ATi chipset, 2GB GDDR5, this thing will play any game you through at it.

Now, the reason I didn't like your motherboard was because it didn't support DDR3, and you're really gonna want that.

see i have a budget lol that card is WAY too expensive lol. i prefer nvidia cause my imacs ati card sucks monkey dick. as for the mother board i want one that has 2 PCIE x16 slots cause i will most likely be running the gtx260 ssc in sli, maybe even teh ati 4870 x2 ( only 1 ) in the future when the price goes down. Another thing is that i really dont want DDR3 ram and plus im on a $1500 budget. maybe next year ill upgrade to an i7 and HAVE to get ddr3, maybe by christmas

What, you want DDR2? WTF MAN! Isn't this a gaming pc? Oh and will it be connected to the internet? U do want halo ce multiplaya...

Why does anyone think ATi is better than Nvidia? ATi cards push straight draw pixels faster, at least the latest ones, but Nvidia cards always have and continue to win win the AA and AF are kicked up. So, if you want to have your games run great with no shimmer, go Nvidia. I would go 285, but on more of a budget, a OC'd 280 works great too. I will say however that the 4890 is a great card, better than the usual ATi. My friend has one and it can push Crysis pretty well.

i may get the 489O, idk, if iget ddr3 i will most likely get an asus. the gtx 260 ssc actually outperforms the 280, keep in mind that i will be upgrading the GPU by christmas, but iam thinking about ddr3

Ok, whoa there. If you will be upgrading soon, and you are sure about it, get an 8800 or 9600. Don't waste your money on something you wont be using for too long (resale you say? The value will be degraded by 30% by then).

I agree. It seems technology gets old fast. I remember when for a birthday in 98, my parents bought me an emate, to learn to type. That thing had a keyboard, a monochrome display, 1 MB of RAM, 2 MB of storage, and could barely access the internet. My dad had it work with teh e-mail though.

idk yet, ive been looking at gtx 26O benchmarks and they r good enough for me, even better since im getting the super clocked version. and by upgrading i meant making it SLI, which i may not even do. But, ive got a 87% idea for going to DDR3
