What exactly...

Re: What exactly...
I remember when HME 0.2 was released and what it was like before there was a mac meta editor. I remember the summer that bob came back and converted 4 CE maps. I also had a little bit to do with the increase in CE ripping. Demo hack made working with HHK much simpler. Then Harbinger made CE maps more accessible. Then Eschaton 0.8 with CE import built right in. CE content is a tool. It can be overused like anything else. I remember during the Halomods days when log mods were rampant (kind of a perennial problem really). I seem to remember a brief period here when there were 5 or more HUD WIP threads as well. When the barrier to entry is lowered then the signal to noise ratio grows. But it also allows that handful of people who wouldn't have been able to work. There's a lot of noise but with patience and cultivation it can turn into a signal. I still find it weird when people like Modzy or Kayar are considered old. Unless you have me beat by 6 months on my original account (Jun06) you'll always be a newby to me.

Re: What exactly...
What we need to realize, is that CE, like our current demo material, are just more tools to use. We need to stop making distinctions between CE and demo, and start thinking up more CREATIVE ways of using that material together. CE in of itself isn't bad. But just like anything thats rushed into, CE by itself isn't necessarily good. From what I've seen from the newest mods (Serious ones) is that theres an imbalance between CE, and whats considered "Classic" material. What changes need to be seen, is CE material that has been creatively blended, using new tags and material, but further editing them from their original intent.Pigeons! wrote:Is going on with all this CE stuff?
yes, i too like CE maps n' crap
but the way we (as in the senior members of MGM) mod is much, lets say, cool-er?
so, what are YOUR thoughts on CE importing to mac?
CE is indeed very cool, and is, to be frank, the future of Halo demo Moding.
However, in the process of our mass influx of CE importations, we need to remember what it is to MOD. That we are MODDERS. Not IMPORTERS.
Thats my take on it.

I've only been here a year and ten months, two of those months I was gone completely, and about six I was only partially active within Halo Demo.My Join Date wrote:Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:06 am

I lol'd. Sure modzy wasn't as good as he is now. but he was still better then you at modding not flaming well trying not to just pointing that out.Seafire wrote:Modzy joined after me... I remember when he was still a nubbin.
but you do different things and i'm sure your better at the things you each do.
IE:
Modzy: programming
Seafire: machinima

I wasn't too bad of a modder, either. My very first mod I'd ever made, and posted on MGM, had over a hundred changes, all meta, no rebuilding. The only reason I started programming was, well, I think I could best describe it as the thought that would go through my head: "Hey! I just got a great idea! But I can't do that to my mods with what we have... I'll make something to do it!" Then you make it, and you find out you don't want it anymore, rinse and repeat.Mota-Lev wrote:Modzy: programming

That was one example. i would have done 2 but I couldn't think of a second for seafire. And it might look bad for him.Modzy wrote:I wasn't too bad of a modder, either. Re: What exactly...
Meh, I never really tried at modding before it got old. And after ODST, I'm kinda sick of the halo series now. So I just mod X-Plane and do machinima in Halo occasionally.
The only other thing I do is... ehrm....
Be awesome?
You're lucky I didn't say "Your mother".
