Yeah... Doesn't really make sense. As far as I know, you aren't some guy traveling around the country all the time or something... Wouldn't just a normal MBP make sense? I'm sure he has his reasons. Which he will probably post.

Moxus, this has kind of been discussed http://macgamingmods.com/forum/viewtopi ... 43&t=17796 - basically, you can't do much about it as they're not going to update Halo to work with hardware that didn't exist when the game came out.
There are more reasons to get a Macbook Air than one may think.
*They're cheaper than MacBook Pro's, including defaulting to using a SSD.
*They have a higher resolution than Macbook Pro 13", and the same as 15" - huge benefit is the MacBook Air has a smaller screen.
*To really top off a MacBook Air as far as laptops go, you need to shoot for 15" MacBook Pro (more expensive, and again, this isn't including if you want it to be a SSD) because the 13" models still only have the sucky integrated graphics.
*As a secondary computer, say, if you already have a desktop, a Macbook Air makes more sense.
*Lighter, more portable to carry around. Thin.
*You may not use CDs or DVDs anymore. They have no future. Or if you have another computer, CD/DVD sharing *may* satisfy you.
The MBA is no machine I'd rely on for that much gaming, but the low end Macbook Pro's are no better, and the MBA's are pretty nice to use.

Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
Can this be done for halo demo as is? To make it cross pc / mac compatable? IM just not gonna have a mac for a while and wouldnt mind playing some matches on mac servers.Modzy wrote:Joining servers via a separate application would be pretty easy.

Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
I don't think Halo PC users are interested in seeing the mac demo gamespy servers, so the only option would be to connect to their server ourselves.
Can't you just add a firewall to the game via System Preferences and make it use the PC gamespy server IP as a proxy?

Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.
Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
Fonz and I worked on this last night. I modified demo to display trial servers. However, upon joining, the game crashes. Most likely due to netcode issues; Halo Demo is a version above Trial; Demo is version 01.00.00.5769, Trial is 01.00.00.5768.
Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
Couldn't you just change the netcode version number? Try that.

Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
Gameplay is different between trial and demo, is it not? Just connecting to them is a minor problem in comparison.

Those are the netcode version numbers. Changing them allows you to join trial games, but doing so will cause a crash because the code is not the same.Sparky wrote:Couldn't you just change the netcode version number? Try that.

Can't we just make a wine wrapper for Halo Trial or something like that?GLaDOS wrote:The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one.

Re: Extending the Life of Halo Modding
Halo Demo came out much later than the Halo Trial, so I'd think Halo Demo has a bit different and bit better netcode (probably a modified version of what 1.5.2 used). No surprise Demo players can't play with Trial players.
@Taxi: It sounds easy, and it may be, but no way do I think it is it the best.

Just gonna interrupt for a second if I can:
And to be honest, the MBA is really performing well; I've got the 11", so the battery peters out pretty fast, but the screen is nice, the Sandy Bridge is certainly fast enough, and the minimal size and weight are certainly up my alley. It's a worthwhile buy for just about anyone.

Good call. I got a MBA because, realistically, I'm not doing much on the computer anymore; I don't mod, I do next to no gaming off the Xbox, and I hardly ever use a CD/DVD. So, buying a MBP seemed a bit superfluous considering I'm really just checking Twitter, the BBC, and my e-mail.draconic74 wrote:I'm sure he has his reasons. Which he will probably post.
