ok this is a slightly different topic. Would it be possible to create a sort of buddy list that displays your buddies when they are playing halo and which server they are in?

Creating a buddy list that displays when you are playing would be easy. Knowing what server you are in wouldn't be possible (at least with the access we have to Halo) unless you had a set list of servers you would only go to. This would be similar to how GameRanger handles players joining Unreal or Quake games. GameRanger will show that a player is ingame but if the game wasn't hosted from within GameRanger, GameRanger can't track you in the servers.

yes i know that but i never use gameranger. this all started when they made the battlefield 1942 demo for premium members only.

I stopped using Gameranger when there were no Halo rooms on it. I never see one when I get on...
