I don't think it would be that difficult to adjust.
The basic keyboard layout that I used when I first started using Halo was completely keyboard, which I borrowed from another game. I had been playing said game for a very long time, so the layout was native to me. When I began playing, I quickly learned that the layout wasn't working, and I had to change it so that it incorporated the mouse. It was difficult at first, especially because my left hand was now controlling more complicated tasks such as movement, but after a few games I started to adjust.
What I'm trying to say is that it will be somewhat difficult at first (you'll have to make corrections from your old layout to new), but you will adjust. It only took me a day or two to begin working smoothly (and I had just started Halo) . For the sake of that time, you'll probably find it helps you. Trust me, the benefits of having 3 vital controls on the same place as you aim is very beneficial (I find it is anyways...).
