download insanegulch (made using BYOM)

The reason everyone is criticizing you is you used another person's mod as the base for your mod and did not give credit to the person for using the mod.

Start off on simple grounds for that kind of stuff. Put the Pelican into Bloodgulch, make it drivable, and hey! Presto! Your first step up to being a respected modder. After that, experiment around a bit like editing metas and keep a journal in test edit on all your discoveries and what people have posted here.

stop picking on the poor bastard. so what if he made it with tools? a hexeditor is a tool. the keyboard is a tool. the whole god damn computer is a fucking tool! and (im going to hate myself for saying this) most of us would rather be lazy and use HMT or HHK to do our mods rather than having to type in shit in hexeditor! btw, i did dl it (havn't played it yet). o, and you would get a better respose out of the guys at modhalotrial.com as long as you say that it was done with BYOM (they tend to be nicer to n00bs like us over there
)

Our lifes our brief,
And soon it flys away like a dove.
But for now I rejoyce,
And help to spread the 8 bit love.

ok yes you have a point, the keyboard is a tool, so is the computer etc etc. The problem is that those tools don't make modding as challenging. Modding is supposed to be challenging! I don't care how lazy you are! It's supposed to be for people who want to take the time to do it. If you start off using those tools, you never TRULY understand modding besides clicking on different projectiles and replacing them! Yes mike, you're too lazy like most of us, but i'm sure you have a good understanding of editing hex.
My point is just to start off using hex, once you understand hex, then go off and save time with a modding tool.

hmmm the only way i learnt to mod was using hex.
but if there is an easier way, why cant people use it?
it doesnt matter how he got the final product but THAT he got the final product.
if someone says to me "you need to get from here to that place over there"
ill take the car, you can walk.
maybe when people start out they should learn the easier way...
they just want to be able to mod.
when they get better and are able to take the hard way they should. you get nothing out of taking the hard road except personal gratification.

Haha nice analogy. Here's my analogy: In math class, you might happen to get the right answer by doing the problem the wrong way. The way you get the final product DOES matter. I'm only saying that you're not truly learning modding if you start by using tools. For instance, if you never learn to walk (yes i know impossible) and you start off driving, then you've never truly learned the true, real way to get from place A to place B.
I choose to walk from point A to point B if it's a short distance, the n00bs are choosing to drive the car.
I'm not saying you can't use the easier way, i'm saying i will never call you a true modder if you use the easy way.

This isnt math... In a way. There are shortcuts in math that alays work, but I cant think of any right now. And yes, I am too lazy to do all that replacing and stuff. But now, my full header got corrupted, and Im too lazy to get it again, so who says laziness is all bad?
And, as a choice, I choose to sleep 20 extra minutes and have to bike to school (25 minutes walking time) instead of getting up 20 minutes earlier and getting a ride. Is that laziness or not...?
Also, great things CAN be done with swaps. My "Un-Named Mod" is all swaps, and it was a great hit when I started playing Halo and one of my freinds finds it absolutely hilarious. If you havnt downloaded it and tried it, do it. Its pretty cool for a mod completely made from swaps.
