bitmapping quality question

Occasionally when injecting bitmaps they turn out really nasty with the horrible squares of compression. I know this problem has been brought up before and Alt said something about Eschaton not playing 100% nice with image importing. I was wondering what is the most appropriate file format for bitmapping (best image, file sizes don't matter so much) and if it's possible to avoid bad quality imports.

.PNG or .TIF/.TIFF for the best quality. You'll still probably get those squares, just an Eschaton thing.

Use HMT to import Ui or bitmaps. It imports quality better, Alt said somethig like his home made image editor isn't the best qualiy
