Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.

Yep, it's meant to be comprehensive, and to link people to references that go further in-depth than its own scope. It's like an FAQ for modders, but with links and stuff... and organized, of course O_)

While it's a great idea for all the kiddies in Halo Demo who ask "HOW DO I MOD?", I'm not sure if it'll turn out as well as expected. Why? 'Cause there isn't one way to mod; each of us learned how to mod from different sources, from different people, or using different techniques in different orders that made the journey of learning how to mod unique to each person. This makes it very difficult to standardize the learning procedure. And even if we could, should we? From my P.O.V, half the fun in modding is that sense of discovery, the working through of something you find difficult, and the times of exploration where you found something unique. If we standardize the process, we'd be taking away those moments. I'd hate to do that.

And if nothing else, the page will probably suffer the same problem as the question itself does; modding is too broad a topic to pack everything neatly and coherently into one page. It's like trying to write a guide to playing MW2; could you do it? Sure! But could you every adequately represent and communicate every aspect of MW2 gaming? No. There'd be entire sections that couldn't be summarized because the topic is simply too broad.

All that said, we already have an FAQ. And that failed, because people didn't want to read through it. What we really need is what we already have: a place where people can ask questions, get feedback (however harsh), and learn with live people who can listen to and address specific problems. It's the best, and most successful, way to go.

Excellent points, that we should keep in mind while building it. But this wouldn't be for standardizing the modding process, but for keeping newbies (who actually read it) from making the same mistakes as well as a reference when we use a modding technique not frequently needed. Being a wiki, it would also help to group everyone's work together (there are at least 2 tutorials out there on how to fly ...).

Perhaps breaking it down into a few pages will help? (Like "Weapons", "Effects", etc.) Currently, we don't have anything like it because this will be a wiki project.

I think this is a good idea, just a place to house any knowledge.

That's the thing - you're assuming newbies will read it. And I'm not sure how many will: there's been a recurring problem with new people in which they don't take the time to read information or tutorials, even when they're stickied or in a clearly labelled subforum. That's why we've had people who keep asking "how do I import stuff" and "how do I make the AR shoot rockets" even though there are clearly labelled tutorials either in the main discussion board or in the tutorials section. And who can blame them? Who wants to read through a wall of text which may or may not work, and then have no way to ask questions?

In that way, this wiki will suffer the same problems the other attempts like this have, in which it may be a decent resource, but it won't be read, and it will fail under the superior teaching method of this board.

We do have something like it; If this is simply going to be an assemblage of tutorials, we've had the Halo Demo Tutorials subforum and I dunno how many app packs loaded down with tutorials. So it is available - whether or not it's duplicated for the third or fourth time in wiki form is beside the point.

Moxus, this might very well fall into the "let Sparky try, and fail" vogue, but that doesn't mean it won't help B) Besides, this is a group effort, right?
