I'm in the process of creating a few mods for the Halo Demo. And Yes, one of the mods will make it so the banshees cannot fly.
Here is a screenshot of a dark Bloodgulch.

What is so bad about banshees? It's pretty fun to take them down with a pistol or something, and it's not that hard to do.

Haha, there are those who hate it and those who don't. I like it, I don't mind shooting it down. The reason to make the mod is most of the hosts I see say no banshees.

I redownloaded the quake demo and
found a couple mods that claim to be for it....
maybe I'm not loading them correctly...you take the
.map file and change it to .bak, and then rename the
new map "bloodgulch", right?....or are the mods very
subtle? This is a game I Definitely would have bought,
but I was So frustrated by the demo.....a rifle that
shoots once every three seconds doesn't make it
against 5 aliens in a clump on a sidewalk
you can't step Off of...
On the other hand I remember meeting
the Quake guys a few times and marvel
at the Product....Great Work! I Sense
the Game is Muuuuuuuuch better than the
demo......and then there's Distribution.
Fed Ex is SO incapable of delivering software....
sure the Puter will get here in 15 hours after I
order it.....but order a disc and they drive it
around Atlanta for two weeks. They so lame.
(they explain patiently they can't provide
Security for nonHardware items.
They so funny.
A pay and play system is needed.
Money has to be put into mammoth servers.
Charging 25 cents per game prepaid
would generate Billions. (More than
paying 25 bucks per game.) Why
Invest in Games (sic)...from a
Consumer Society Perspective.
CD's have jumped the Shark.

Doc, I'm not sure what you would to do to make Quake Demo mods work. For the Halo Demo you don't need to rename the map to play the mod version. Also the mods can be subtle or very obvious, depends on what you want to change.

oh yeah......it did work....
it was pretty subtle though.....
I love the basics of this game;
I just wish it was less linear.
(I'll buy it now and see if it goes
in the Box of No Renown)(But I
remember thinking those guys were
destined for Gareatness.).
There are new game engines
being offered for game development....
the atmospherics which I found lacking
in apple-developed games now seem
very hot.....check out the new
Garage Games Package.....
...and a new Danish Engine.
Hey do you know how they did the "ragdoll"
physics for "deadguys"? That's where I see
a higher level of development in the old system.
In Films they do the motion system analysis of
actors with those sensors taped to them.
Did anybody do this, or was motion "predicted"?
Stallone told me he can Fake It better than
I can Predict it with a computer...
Disney offers 7billion to Buy Pixar....as Pixar
works on the Toon Version of the Great Escape.
THIS is the cartoon of the cartoon world.
Chris Lee says Depp only real actor in Hollywood....
but look at that Clooney Dance. Lookin smooth.
He warned me we all move one step Right when
Our world is threatened. (Won the Golden Globe
monday for his category...).
If my Half Brother doesn't end The War soon we
just have to Move On. Or Along. They sent Laura Out to attack
Hillary yesterday. Hillary's talking about the
Slave Rebellion on the Plantation...and says she's
our Leader. They rolled Gore out again yesterday,
for God's Sake. Talk 'bout Dusty. The Collpase
of the Dems preceeds the Surrender of Osama?
And what happened to Obama?
As a cartoonist I can't compete with the White House.

Monoman, what do you use to mod Halo Mac demo maps? Everything I found until now is a dead end, even specs about the map format of the full game; apparently the demo format is different.

Yes, the map demo files are different than the map full files. From what I have seen the difference is at the very first part of the file. If you open a full version file and demo file in a hex editor and compare them you will see what I mean. Because of this slight difference, the Mac version of HMT can't open the demo files.

Thanks for the info. Only I don't have a full version to compare to. I've compared the original demo Blood Gulch to your mods, which gave me some ammo locations and what may be a bit mask for the Banshee, but that won't get me far. Does the difference at the very first part change the size, and if so, how much? That may help with offsets.

I'd like to know if you could redo the banshee mod so that it doesn't make that horrible noise when non-mod users don't have it.

I see that you released the infinite ammo mod.
Some people love it. Most people hate it. It does make things unbalanced.
Speaking of unbalanced, is that why you took sprint out of the final version?
Also, how is the dark map coming along?
Do you intend to release that, or the flying warthog mod?
Sure, it doesn't do much for gameplay, but most of us want to play around with things like flying hogs.

Jonathan, the difference at the first doesn't affect anything. I just mentioned that to explain why the Mac version of HMT can't open the file. I'll post some files I have this weekend that list the offsets for everything.
purple1, I will look at the mod again ingame since I'm not sure what noise you are talking about. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the sound problem comes from the players without the mod hearing a weird mix of the banshee trying to take off and not taking off. I'll look at it again.
Dark Angelus, the reason I took the sprint out of the final version was that many people said the sprint changed the game too much. No one needed the vehicles. Although I liked the sprint which is why it will be included in the next mod along with the flying warthogs. As for the dark map, the problem is the dark map isn't server side. This means if you were hosting it and someone joined without the mod they could see everyone perfectly while no one else could.

I still may release something with it.
Also, if anyone has any requests/ideas on what you guys want in the next mod, list them here.

Monoman, I'd like to parse the map. The obvious place to begin would be the start of the file, which contains important references to the rest, as far as I know. But it didn't match the technical info I found, which I assume is the difference, making it useless without more info. I'm partly thinking on the low hex editor/programming level, if you didn't notice yet.
But usable offsets to everything would be a good start.

For the grounded banshee mod, yes, there is a weird noise that seems to happen sometimes.
It doesn't matter whether you have the mod or not. If you stay in the shee for too long, it just randomly jumps around.
Sometimes, the shee will disappear from the map, and your screen will turn all white. That's usually where the sound comes from. It's a bit of a screeching noise.
When people are in the spot where it's all white, it seems no one can respawn. Or maybe that was just the time I used it.
Anyway, I don't know what's possible to mod, but everyone seems to be bitching about the time limit.
I guess 15 minutes is a little short.
