Curious: New Weapon Models

Say I injected a new weapon model into Bloodgulch. Not just replaced an existing weapon, but completely added a new weapon. If I hosted a game with that weapon, could anyone without the mod see it? If they couldn't, what would they see? Nothing? If they were standing over the weapon, would it even indicate that they could pick up an item?
