Information Exchange

A while ago monoman posted that he wanted both the level of knowledge on this board and amount of information shared here to increase, so to kill two birds with one stone I believe we should create some sort of information exchange program. You would succinctly post what you already know and what you wish to know, then it would be pretty easy to set up a trade of some of your knowledge for another person's.

Just throwing this out there, fishing for comments, etc.

Alright i'll bite. that sounds like a pretty good idea but like before the ppl with alot more experiance with modding wont like this, but to my knowledge your one of the best Bunny so hopefully this will inspire a few others into being a little more open.

Quite an ingenious idea. It's like your mods, A Bunny. Anyway, I have some general knowledge and some other things that I am experimenting with that once I figure out I'll post what I know.

information information, lol, interestingly enough the more you know the more you have to bargain with.... har har so those who dont know all that much wont be able to gain much from those who do cause those who do will know it already....

Most of it is just sword, and he has two main oppositions to sharing info;

1.) It's better for them to learn it themselves

This one is pretty valid, I learned almost everything I know from the basis of two posts in the halo demo mods thread, and because of that I believe that I understand the map a bit better than someone who was given the information. But, if this idea was put in place then that means that for someone to be able to get information from someone else they will have to provide an equivalent amount of data that they have learned, which means that they will have had to figure something out for themselves.

2.) Freely shared information means that more people can mod, therefore more mods, less un-modded servers and more crappy mods.

This one however assumes that people who host normal mods are just waiting to find a good mod so that they can host it. Also, it presumes that the percentage of crap mods on the whole applies to the mods that the dev board makes. Sure you may get a few less players in normal maps but I doubt it will be the armageddon that sword predicts...

I sort of understand this whole "ruining halo demo" thing but why does it matter what mods ppl are playing in there servers, if you dont want to play a crappy mod why dont you simply host your own game?

If everyone knows how to do what you do, what makes your mods unique?

Pretty much all the higher-ups knew how to adjust rate of fire, projectile life-span, and trigger lock, but that doesn't mean they were all making light sabers.

Being able to do something is one thing, but innovation is something completely different. If everyone knows how to do something that just means you'll have to do more than just put that element in the game to be original, you may actually have to come up with new ideas... :o

I made that light saber mod a long time ago, I even told sword about it over aim. As for the jetpack I had the idea, it just wasn't made. I was discussing it with rebelji12.

Doesn't make my point any less valid. Just imagine any references to me being to you and you'll have the exact same point.

I'm just trying to say, I didn't steal any ideas.

I didn't say you did... the come up with new ideas comment was targeted at all modders, sorry if it seemed like an attack on you.

Meh, I've had a jetpack idea myself. I had every little detail planned out, but then one little problem got me, and so I just didn't bother to do it. Oh, and it isnt the way you did it, sleeping, I mean a real jetpack, a pack model on the back, flames coming out of it, etc.
