[TuT] Flashlight Editing (Was 'Flashlight bitmap?')

So, I got what I wanted and to help others, this is now a tutorial. If you want to know what I mean by "Flashlight editing" Just go here. For the end result.

Okay then, as kinda the opposite of what I thought, this is really simple!
First, open eschaton (I'm using 0.7 (Yes its old but I cant be stuffed getting the new one)) and select bloodgulch.map.
Image
Next, click the carrot(?) to drop down the bitm tags and select 'characters\cyborg\bitmaps\spotlight cyborg' and in the window to the right, click 'Export' and save all the files to a folder (The only one you really need is the first though).
Image
After that, open The first picture in a picture editing program (I'm using pixelmator) and zoom in a bit on the central white part.
Image
Thats the main part you want to edit because its all that you see. I've just added red over the top of it but you can do whatever you want.
Image
Now to import it Just go back into eschaton and select 'characters\cyborg\bitmaps\spotlight cyborg' again and this time click import.
Image
When the window pops up just click load and choose the image you edited for all of them
Image
End result:
Image

Hope I helped!

Note: When the picture imports it flips it to the right. To counteract this just flip your image to the left before you import it.

Any bitmaps are listed under the bitm category. If you don't see one for cyborg_flashlight, then that means the light uses the ligh tag type instead. But here's how you start: go under the cyborg's bipd tag, click on Reference Swapper, find the flashlight thingy, then see what is under Reference Swapper in the flashlight effe (a.k.a. thingy).

bipd: cyborg -> References effe: flashlight
effe: flashlight -> References (?)

Thx but can you edit what the flashlight looks like? Like I make the flashlight a picture so that when you shine it on a wall it shows the pic instead of just white light.

A tutorial would be nice, just change this topic title and put it on the first post.

K then. Hmm. Draw them on? Or with a picture just resize it to make it smaller then paste on top of the central white part. Don't forget to rotate the picture to the left before importing.

If you only want to change the colors of the flashlight, you can just change that in the metadata:
Image
The above value will change the color the flashlight shows when the flashlight is OFF.
Change "Color Upper Bound" if you want to change the color the flashlight shows while it is ON.

In this way, you can make a flashlight shine blue while off and green while on.

Any detail is hard to present, because so few pixels are shown. You can make the image size smaller in the flashlight's metadata (the ligh tag, above), and use the entire 128x128 bitmap cubemap face area in order to display a more-detailed picture.

...unfortunately, that doesn't quite work right... so images will probably be stuck as poor quality:

(Heidi Klum, from a picture I probably shouldn't post here)
