ERSB notice <-How to change it and Hex Alphabet

Post by 002 » Mon May 28, 2007 11:19 am

20-year-old me: Each ustr string is in a UTF-16 little-endian encoding, which is similar to the Latin1 encoding that Halo uses, though each character is 16-bit instead of 8-bit. Because it's in little-endian, the least significant byte goes first, though for most characters that you'll probably be using, the second byte is typically a 00.

This tutorial was written eight years ago, which was when I was still in elementary school, so my English and spelling on this tutorial are quite flawed, as well as my general maturity. Note that adding or removing any characters will result in corrupting the cache file, so one can only overwrite them without creating a new ustr tag or otherwise rebuilding the map in some fancy way. However, you can shorten the string by replacing unwanted characters with 00 00's. I also recommend using Hex Fiend (OS X) or HxD (Windows) instead of Hexedit, because they're much more supported today.

12-year-old me:

1. Open Blood Gulch in Hexedit
2. Look For 45005300520042 (hex code)

----

Changing bloodgulch's name

1. Do a
2. Look for the word blood in Hex (every byte must be between a zero):
which is 42006c006f006f0064
3. Change it.

How to use this::

If you were looking for the word Lake
you would..
1) press apple f
2) find out the case o the letters,
3) Put * 4c 00 61 00 6b 00 65 00 * in the find box
and press find next.

If it doesnt find the word then either you spelled the word wrong, put caps in the wrong place, you are at the bottom of the document and there is no more places to look, or of course that the word isn't in the document.

Jeez... learning how to do this on my own was so much fun. I was talking to Homunculus when I figured it out. Haha.

Speaking of Homun, what happened to him? Haven't seen him around for a long while.

Yeah... I'm pretty sick on Lockout and Coagulation (Bloodgulch) . But my Mom didn't buy me the wireless networker for my birthday so I don't have Xbox Live! Actualy I found out how to make a wireless networker, all that I have to do is stick the Xbox 360 Ethernet cable into my 2nd Airport Express and bring the 2nd Airport Express downstairs.

Here is my connection right now:

1st Airport Express with everything.

\
\
2nd Airport Express

The 1st Modem is upstairs and directly connects to my first Mac.
The Second one is right next to my Mac on the middle floor (This boosts the connection speed for both Macs.)
The 1MCMAX... http://www.MoBDeep.net

I tried this with the "Leave Game" using find and replace. I did it once, Halo crashed, I did it a second time, Halo crashed. Any Ideas why?

Thanks!

(every byte must be between a zero)
You did remember to leave zeros between each letter right? And don't add more letters than are already there.

You can't edit the amount of bytes on Blood Gulch with simple Hex

You can't use less or more digits.

You can replace the unneeded letters with 00 bytes or spaces
