How to change the vehicle ceiling

Tut by Kayar, original by someone at halomods, which was then translated by zapconquest, which is now being re-translated over to here by me.

What this does: Enables you to change the height that vehicles can fly at in a given map.

Why you would do it: Becuase you've just made a kickass new vehicle that flies but it can't fly as high as you want it to.

How you can do it:

1. Open bloodgulch.map in hexedit.

2. Cmnd+J, go to "psbsmtib"

3. You should be at line 810 now. Look at line 820. You will see a question mark followed by several dots followed by the number "0" next to the letter "A".

4A. Now, you can do one of a few things. If you want to completely rid the map of the vehicle ceiling, allowing vehicles to fly as high as the real map ceiling, then delete the 0A by changing their hex values to 00.

4B. IF however you do not wish to completely delete the ceiling, then change the values to the height you want the ceiling at. HOWEVER, I have not experimented with this, thus I do not know what values you would have to enter in. You'll have to experiment yourself.

5. Save the file and quit hexedit. You know what to do from there. Play the map in Halo. You can test your vehicle ceiling by grabbing a banshee and flying as high up as you can in it.

Enjoy!

I don't think it does deserve a sticky. It's a good tutorial but doesn't need it, Mono should just make a section for tutorials. More organized and easier to find.

I would say it would be stickied if there was a lot of dedicated research, lots of info and advice, going along w/ that.

That's a very wise idea. It would make tutorials easier to find, and also more organized. Furthermore, it would make re-directing people to an effective and easy tutorial easier.

MUAHAHA!!!! Im back!!

And, the 0A is actually a float. Select the last 4 (eight digits) on HexEditor (not HexEdit) and check the Swapped box. The float box should say 11 if havent edited it. Change that 11 to something lower, like 6. Hit enter and save (ignore the non-save popup). Play. Now the shee can only get as high as the plasma nades on the red base cliff.

:D

Now, if anyone manages to import water, Ill make a boat mod.

Zapconquest --> Yes, like that, except a Forum like this one.

Draconic74 --> I thought of importing water, and I did, but I didn't know how to apply it.... A Boat mod would be cool though. I always thought that the "Hull" of the Warthog would look good as a boat.

I attempted to rebuild a map and added the fog/water tag from b30, but unfortunately the rebuilt map failed (see my topic on rebuilding somewheres near here...). I have no idea how you'd apply it though, maybe something with the planar fog thingy in bitm tag, if you could find the same object in another more changeable tag.

If only A Bunny released his version... (it was him who made it work, right?). Maybe Deox or sword can do it?
