[TUT] Black base GeForce8 Fix

[TuT] Black Base fix for GeForce 8 graphics card
Brought to you by the Halo Reconnaissance Unit
Fix found by Jonathan
-------------------------------------------------------------------


1. Open Eschaton

[not necessary]
2. Click the dependency swapper
Click the bitm carrot
Scroll down and click the levels/b30/bitmaps/detail metal scratches tag
Memorize or copy the offset
[/not necessary]

4. Click the hex editor
Locate the offset A567E0
After some 80 00 80 00's or so, you'll see a 08 00 00 00
The 08 is the number of mipmap levels
Change the 8 char to 6

5. Save and enjoy!

EDIT: The full tag for metal scratch is levels/b30/bitmaps/detail metal scratches.

DOUBLE EDIT: Oh. Mah. God. It worked! Yeeeeessss! Again! xD

also i believe fixes the white flashes in campaign mode (b30) ? might be the radar fix tho...
i figured it out too, lol a few days ago, i just didnt get a tut uploaded... fuel got there first, lol

i'm working on making the water look more realistic now :) its gettin there

LOL, exactly...
Actually I think it might be the radar that causes that glitch
Which can be fixed by swapping the matg dependancies for the ui/radar can't remember exactly... To ui/shell/bitmaps/black... I think... Typing on iPod so I ain't positive on the tags

I believe the offset is A567E0. Might wanna edit the tut to save some time for the modders:
1. Open a hex editor
Find A576E0 (offset of levels\b30\bitmaps\metal scratches)
After some 80 00 80 00's or so, you'll see a 08 00 00 00
The 08 is the number of mipmap levels
Change the 8 char to 6

2. Save and enjoy!

yep, he told me just to edit the mipmap levels... so i started messing with em, and got it to work...
guess i shoulda mentioned his name in there... i was in a hurry and on ipod... and guess i forgot, lol
i did however give him credit in the text file i created that i was gonna upload, (has screenshots) but i couldn't stinking upload it... coffee shop wifi sucks....

yeah, i know that Jon browses the forums, but he hasnt actually made a post in a long time.... O_o

actually the byte you'll want to change is at A567E8 i believe...

You believe? I did that in Hexedit and it worked. Unless you're misinterpreting that crossed 0 (stupid font Hexedit uses) as an 8.

nah, i was on an ipod atm, and didn't have access to my computer to make sure, i cross-referenced another offset i was working on accident
my bad

oh... and i use 0xED for most of my hexing...
