I need a "song of the week" for a music network I'm developing. Past songs of the week are "Fanfare for Freedom", "I Remember", "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "A Mis Abuelos". Whoever posts a link to their favorite song first gets the song of the week choice for next week.
And yes, that would be illegal for songs that the copyright owner doesn't give permission to publish. In this case, it's used as an advertisement for the songs. I'll be more strict about the rights once the site is open to the public. Generally, I don't post an entire piece unless there's really no way to musically truncate it while maintaining decent musical respect for its content. (Ie, songs that have lots of repeated material can be acceptably shortened, but something that has a continuous suspending build isn't given enough credit for its content if it is cut short.) So yeah, it's not the traditional 30 second maximum, but people will be much more likely to want to own the original full version this way. "Dude, I really like that song, where can I buy it? Oh here it is, lemme click 'buy this song' right here at the bottom..."
Consider if Bungie only released Halo Demo with The Silent Cartographer instead of also including Bloodgulch. What a difference that would be, wouldn't it? Or if you could only play Bloodgulch for 30 seconds each round? The thing is, most non-musicians really don't understand music enough to notice the shape or cohesiveness of a sonic artwork. It's like taking 30 seconds from a speech, but only using some random section from the middle, not even the opening thesis. You'd have no clue what was being discussed or its context. What you DO get is the tone of the person's voice at that one point. But music is not mere decontextualized tone quality.
link? wouldn't that be illegal for most songs? ._.
Eh.. YouTube removed my link to your song due to Terms of Use violation. Maybe I shouldn't have that one as the song of the week... which is almost over, by the way

I'll use this, and add a link to the Youtube video in the congratulations.
Next week's is ... Corelli's Opus 6, "Christmas Concerto".
Followed by what you all posted above.
EDIT: it's up now.

I checked out the site, it's pretty awesome. And thanks for the Metric, I think the band deserves alot more recognition.

Turtle. you are awesome. I prefer Ashes to Ashes or Space odyssey though.
Yes, but I think Changes is a bit less of an oddball and might appeal to people on MGM a little more, and Space Oditty (You meant oddity didn't you?) is like five minutes long.
Edit: Just listened to that song, it also hurts sea life...
