Illinois Music Educators Association.

We get music pieces in school which we audition with at IMEA competitions and get metals from. There are scale auditions you can do, along with concert band pieces, jazz band pieces, percussion ensemble pieces, and others.

You might be interested in the Thesaurus of Scales book, written by some famous Russian dude whose name escapes me presently. You can find it on Amazon.com.

I could either buy that book, or learn the music theory necessary to know most popular scales.

Well, you would buy it to learn the more obscure scales AFTER learning the more common scales of Common Practice Tonal and Jazz musical idioms.
