okay so i can fly planes now.

how do i do missions and stuff, how do i shoot, and what do i shoot?

In terms of "Missions" there isn't much in terms of combat. While the AI in version 9 are smarter and will do more tight manoeuvres, it only works with modern aircraft that include air to air missiles.

That being said, go into aircraft>aircraft and situations and add one AI aircraft by setting the number variable in the middle of the screen. Click the little grey box that is next to it and select some fighter like the F-4 Phantom. Then take off yourself with some fighter, and go into local map to try and find the enemy aircraft. I believe the default keyboard setting for lock-ons are the [ ] keys. Having a joystick helps because you can set this in the joystick and equipment menu.

and local map means that you can set it that you can leave the usa or whatever, so you dont have to fly the world in search of one AI?

Anyway, there is a maximum of about 10-12 AI aircraft... and the Local Map allows you to view the immediate area of about 100 km or so. And the AI's spawn inside the local map so you won't waste unnecessary processing speed to load an aircraft halfway across the world where X-Plane hasn't loaded any scenery yet.

There is a proven working method of multiplayer that is called "VATSIM". It's basically X-Plane but with real air traffic control and rules and stuff and w/e.
