Halo is not fucking scary at all. Why did you even MENTION it? >.>
L4D, on the other hand... Never play it at 3 in the morning and have your mom's friend's baby in the middle of the night. I had to scream "WITCH".

I don't really play scary video games much, but at some parts in Half Life 2 I was like "HOLY SHIT!"

DOOM 3 is one of the scariest games. My advice, kill the civilians!! They will only turn into teh zombies!!! Won't change the amount of them, but it is, indeed, FUN!

Marathon 1 when you're eight years old. The alien battle cries chill you to the bone.

^ you idiot. monk didn't say it was scary.
anyway after a time or two, you can predict where zombies will pop up... or when they will wake up unexpectedly etc.
and btw, it is not nice to call pussy someone for such a thing. ¬.¬ also you contradict yourself.
"half life 2 wasn't scary at all, but i got scared in ravenholm!" ⌐_⌐ i'd say the pussy is not monk.
it's just that sometimes when a zombie pops out by a pond saying BWARGLHGLHRLGHL while you are happily searching for a crate to put into an elevator to raise a ramp to make your airboat jump a huge piece of broken tube, you could not be expecting it and go like AUGH JESUS SHIT! Ò_Ó and then SONSOFABICCHESS! PEW PEW PEW!Monk34 wrote:I don't really play scary video games much, but at some parts in Half Life 2 I was like "HOLY SHIT!"

Re: What's The Most Scariest Fps You Ever Played?
Lets see.. Ive played demos of Prey, Doom 3, and the FEAR games. FEAR is not really scary at all. Its like a cross between halo and doom 3 with bullet time. Doom 3 is just "BOO" scares, where enemies come out unexpectedly. Like Half Life 2 (which was more scary due to the good framerate). Halo is not too scary. But when you get to the level with invisible enemies on Legendary, or when you play The Library for the first time... That music is creepiness. L4D isnt much scary. Usually you can get the witch, and most players arent stupid enough to run up to it anymore. Plus, after playing so many times, the locations are semi-predictable. I hate it when she spawns IN the subway train though... Lame.
In general, I guess I dont play many scary games. If I did, it would probably be something like Eternal Darkness or Call of Cthulu. Something to mess with your mind. I have also watched gameplay of Fatal Frame and a few others. None of which were really scary. Then again, its different when you are playing it.
I think the most scares in a game ever, not including "pop-up" moments like Half Life 2, was in Aliens vs Predators 2. And that game is pretty old. Now, its great fun to run around as a Predator, sneaking past everything just so you can stab it in the back (actually, dont... the claws are a terrible weapon). But the rest of his arsenal pretty much makes up for it (cloaking
) Its awesome to be the Alien, who can run like crazy and go up walls and ceilings. He can also pounce long distances and cannot die from falling. And you can bite peoples heads off. The highlight of these two campaigns are using the speargun as the Predator. When you get headshots, he does an evil laugh (and the head goes flying off to get stuck in a wall somewhere). As the Alien, your pounce will literally explode people. Yes. THE EXPLODE. KABOOM! Then again, that means you cant eat their corpse for health.
But then, theres the marine. Oh, he gets the guns (and a useless knife), but his abilities are few. He cant jump high or far, run up walls, turn invisible, see in the dark, see enemies in the dark, lock on targets, eat things for health, and the list goes on. In a few words, he sucks. So you run around. As soon as you encounter a dark space, you think "oh god, something is around that corner". You fearfully continue through the level, sometimes not attacked at all. But those aliens are fast, and you keep getting blips on your super-short range radar for anything moving (anything... doors, cranes, boxes. which creeps you out more). Then the blips disappear, and a few seconds later an alien pounces out of the gloom and all you can do is wildly shoot until its dead on the floor. Oh, and did I mention if you step on the corpse you lose health? The only help you have is flares and a flashlight. You have limited flares and the flashlight must recharge though. You also have night vision, but it only works in pitch-black and drains the flashlight battery in 10 seconds. Anytime you go against the Aliens in that game, its pretty much a psychological horror game.
AvP2 has it all. Stealth, Run and Gun, and Horror. How perfect of a game. I sincerely hope they dont screw the next one up. And from the look of the Predator gameplay and the needless gore... >_<

Re: What's The Most Scariest Fps You Ever Played?
While Resident Evil 4 is technically a third person zombie survival game and not an fps, I'm going to mention it here, as it is the only game I've played that I could call scary. It really had no "pop-up-and-scare-you" moments, except for those few moments when I would kill several zombies, then turn around and find one I missed directly behind me about to rush me and bite my face off. Of course, at these moments one quick reflexive shot to the head would put an end to the situation, unless of course a plaga tore its ugly head out of the guy's neck, in which case I would have to back away and shoot like hell. Then there's the giant flying bug things. My first time going through those sewers, I knew they were there, from reading about them from the list of enemies on the resident evil 4 webpage. However, I knew nothing else about them beyond that they were giant bugs and I would find them in the sewers. The expectation, then, of those encounters actually deepened the suspense of finding them. I recall killing the first two with the rifle from afar, not yet actually knowing what I was shooting at, only that something was moving and I had to snipe it out before I could get closer. That early on in the game, these buggers are tough. Once I got to the point where I couldn't just snipe them before getting to them, I found that out the hard way. Being difficult to kill or able to deal a lot of damage to the player is half of what makes a "scary enemy" scary. Were scary enemies easy to kill with little risk of death, players would simply not find them truly "scary." There's no danger, only some creepy monsters jumping out at you at random, ones you can dispatch easily without any risk. Then the player would find no reason to fear these enemies, there would be nothing stopping the player from simply blowing through the level at full speed ignoring or simply killing without thought the enemies which attack him.
Yeah... [/rambling]
To sum up, the worst enemies on the fear factor for me in Resi 4 would have to ultimately be the regeneradors. I went through my entire first playthrough without having ever picked up the thermal scope from the freezer. When I saw the freezer, and how many regeneradors were lined up inside it, frozen, I knew there was no way I was going to unfreeze those things and have to kill them all. At the time, I had no idea the thermal scope existed, or that it would make killing regeneradors ten times easier. From then on, I absolutely dreaded every encounter with a regenerador. The worst part was, I knew when one was near, because of their incessant breathing. I would be anticipating having to kill one of these things. knowing it would be hell and would take every nade and all the mine thrower ammo I had to take it down.
...And that's my spiel.

Re: What's The Most Scariest Fps You Ever Played?
I agree with Kayar entirely...I was hoping RE5 would give me a scare...but it's nothing since I've seen it all before in RE4, tho there were a few points where I jumped...but I digress...
