BUMP.

Okay, whenever I said I'd find out, I didn't find out then.

We pushed the date back to today because I'd been out of school too much already because of this.

Today we returned to the hospital in Boston, and here's what we learned:

My spleen isn't so much enlarged anymore. It should be around normal size now. The hematologists (people who know about blood and sickle cell trait) said that a virus could trigger the spleen to become enlarged by back-up of the blood cells into it, and thus further clogging. Most likely this is what happened, as I had a cold at around the same time as the spleen became enlarged again. The reason my blood cells also appeared sphere-shaped is unclear, but most likely antibodies going through the spleen took chunks off of them, forming them into spheres as well as killing them to some extent.

This isn't a problem anymore, soon I should be getting back to my normal activities, including running. I have to start small first, walking and such. Track season is coming up, and we'll see how I am for that. But, all in all, I'm recovering nicely. The ibuprofen I've been taking has really helped, and now I'm at the point where I don't need it anymore.

Thanks MGM, for being a great community and being here for me to post this stuff up. It means a lot.

Hey hey! I missed this post. Heh. I, like you, went on a huge hike with my Boy Scout troop. However, it was New Mexico. I think we took a harder beating though. Our "warm-up" for the main week-long hike was a one-day, 17 mile long hike up 3,000ft to the Sandia Peak Tramway System at about 10,000ft of elevation. That was in our third day of elevation adjustion. And I live nearly at sea level. Maybe a few hundred ft... Anyway, so we do this fun little hike and get to go down the longest Tramway in the world. Then we got to stay at this small house manned by an ex-marine (although it was some kind of wildlife refuge owned by the government). Anyway, this guy had a revolver, some semi-automatic, and also a .44 Magnum (THOSE THINGS ARE LOUD). In fact, here is one of the guys shooting it:

Then came a week of almost no-trail hiking. Rattlesnakes attacking the campsite (which our guide beheaded with a shovel :? ), water annoyance (all they have there is untreated pipe water...), and a single hour of flood rain (it was like being underwater, but being able to breath. then the sun came out, 20 mins later... very weird). All in all, a good trip. However, I have resolved to hate rain for the rest of my life.

Yeah, well, Drac, we were on our way down to New Mexico, to Philmont, but as I explained previously I never actually made it because I threw up my guts (not literally) and was in the hospital there for five days, and then went home and haven't been able to do anything physical since August, plus the pain I was in, plus I missed a whole season of cross country running and cross country skiing, and now I might still miss track. And yeah, I live at sea level as well.

You guys altogether may have taken a hard beating, but I, as one single human being, nearly got killed.
You had an "all in all, good trip." I had an all in all, worst trip and worst 2 semesters of school in my life. This also happened at the same time as the girl I like, who I've been really close good friends with for a few years, decided to go out with a friend of mine who's a complete asshole and pretty much no longer a friend, and I've been stressed out and depressed over it for the past few months because there's a lot of other complicated stuff about it that I'm not going to talk about here.

Yeah, that was also why I was depressed that one time and Taxi wanted to know why.

At least you don't have Mono - that was quite a trip. That also enlarges your spleen.
Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.

They actually thought maybe it was mono at first, but the tests showed I didn't.
