help needed with new halo mac modding tool

Post by halonerd12 » Fri Oct 12, 2007 1:55 pm

i'v been thinking about creating a new halo modding tool for mac

...

but i'm not sure how to exactly, i can mod the game, but [obviously] the mac utilities are somewhat limited. I think i could fuse some of them together, (maybe sparkedit & HHT?)

...

any help would be appreciated

Highly recommend reading this. I basically outline how to read a map file using psuedo-code.

Well it kind of matters because of how you have to handle files, the GUI. And of course having experience in a given language helps. (well, RB is pretty simple to learn. I picked it up in about a month for Eschaton)

Well I can give you some pointers, although some things related to filestreams with c-style languages aren't as simple. PM me your aim SN and I'll talk to you there if you're serious. I assume you do know how to code right?

sorry, but i'm kinda not great with internet slang, but whats and aim SN?

...

also, i can code, but slowly, so it might take some time if i'm writing it from scratch.

...

you wouldn't know where i could get a copy of the sourcecode for Eschaton and SparkEdit mac?

I would as a matter of fact. *cough©2007Altimit01,Sword,Cloudcough*

But I'm not really going to be giving the current Eschaton source anytime soon. The older one is public though. Available here. Sparkedit mac with some very useful Sparkedit 3.2 code is somewhere on halodev. I'm trying to find it. SN = screen name as in you aol instant messenger name. PM = private message.

Edit: found the source. Attachment is on the first post here

dang, i just realized i had an outdated version of Eschaton, (0.4.1)

...

makes me rethink my premise that that all the mac tools weren't very good

you made this?

nice job :D

maybe i can improve on it

add more features, cooler UI

Yeah, the UI is probably going to be redone again. I've kinda stalled on the project right now, and am eventually planning on rewriting the backend again. Any significant suggestions besides having a HMTv3.5 like scrolling way of editing meta data rather than having to navigate through folders, and data types. I've been working on that.

sorry, but i'm not sure what your talking about, (who's ROUS?),

i realized my SN sounds a kinda like some other peoples.

...

i'm actaully fairly new to halo modding (2 months, i think), but i'v been playing the game for a while

..

anyway i had some stuff to talk about:

1. i got the sparkedit source code and made a couple of UI adjustments, like the problem with Mac SparkEdit, the one where the models tab never refreshed, i made so it does refresh. Also i made the UI nicer and more intuitive...

2. i was wondering two things:
a: could i redistribute the modded sparkedit? while giving credit to the authors, of course.
b: do you think i could try to fuse SparkEdit and Eschaton, (whose source i'm still trying to find), and distribute that?

i'd like it if somebody could tell me, (oh, ad feel free to email me w/suggestions, links, whatevers related) :D

is possible to modify sparkedit in a way to make it duplicate, delete and rotate object in other axes?

however, nice to meet you! :)

i'm TaxiService, an italian jerk that knows english like a logitech's joystick ;)

..and i dont know anything about programming, so, is that possible?

...and the idea of fusing SE and Eschaton shouldnt be a bad idea...

i'm not completely sure but

..

i guess if i had the source code, (i'v got SparkEdits, but not Eschaton 0.5s), i could build a new UI and basically put all the classes together as a framework and then write a new main() function to handle all of the classes.

...

i think this would allow me to "fuse" the programs into one

...

it would certainly save time in the long run, but i'd have to make sure none of the code conflicted first, and that could take a while

but i'm pretty sure i could do it, given enough time...

oh, and this is completely off-topic, but i made my own forum the other day for halo modding and am looking for new members.

i should use no-ip to mask the URL

anyone whose interested follow the above link.
