Flying Warthogs?

Post by «Beast» » Fri Apr 14, 2006 3:13 pm

Is this possible to make for the Halo Demo? I've seen mods like this but they were made for the full version of Halo and more specifically the PC version of Halo. Is there a difference? Anyway, I tried switching the physics models of the Banshee and the Warthogs but all that happened was the Warthogs disappeared (found one but it didn't move, just sorta hovered uncontrollably in one spot) and the Banshees still flew normally for a few seconds before spazing out of control, flying at insane speeds in undesirable directions, and finally launching you out of it and sometimes getting you stuck in the sky, leaving you with a blank screen, a few green arrows (your teammates) at the bottom of the screen, and a vibrating gun. I have no clue...

It should be. Deox made flying tanks so Warthogs shouldn't be much different.

Yeah, it took me a while to figgure out as well. You're on the right track, though.

And yes, it is possible ;)

so what part of the hog tank for any other grounded vehicle in hexedit do you have to edit? In campaign some thing weird happened to the hog. when I tryed swaping the physics of the hog with the banshee in single player. Ok so I clear the beach of covanent then the pelican comes to deploy the hog. so when the hog it released it flys out into the ocean about 4KM ( i accualy said that on the navpoint marker!) yeah so thats kind of weird
Umm....whats a signature?

Hmm...Again, you're on the right track. I'll give you a small hint though, which might help you out.

You are swapping the physics tag, right? The "syhp............" in the warthog meta with the one in the banshee meta. The reason why that won't work alone, is because in the physics meta, various things such as gravity, wheel/antigrav points, vehicle weight, etc, are defined. Somewhere in the meta (all of the vehicle metas, actually) is a single byte which defines *how* the vehicle operates -- How it responds to movement keys and whatnot. This *single byte* is different for each vehicle, since each vehicle operates differently. The controls also tell how wheels, wings, and anything else on the vehicle functions as well -- things which are defined in the PHYSICS meta. If the components used by the controls don't match the components which are defined by the physics meta, it just won't work.

That's the furthest I'm willing to go in this forum, though...I hope I didn't just ruin Halo Demo...

no you did not just ruin the halo demo community. because it will take about 2 hours to figure this out but I will NEVER GIVE the instructions out when I find out how to do it.:D

So what your saying is, Deox, that just pasting something like this in replacing the warthog: 69 68 65 76 2C B7 F2 4B 00 00 00 00 43 03 B7 E4
will NOT do the trick. You need this short code doohickey thing to balanc out the MOD correct? (Could you at least give us this code for each vehicle so we could MOD the SC lvl??) (Also you don't seem to have to do this for Blood Gulch. Why?

That is correct. Replacing...that vehicle...'s tag data with the warthogs will only make the warthog turn into...that vehicle...and won't actually make it behave like...that vehicle...

Well, obviously you know how to find the tags, and know what to replace. Why not use this knowledge to figgure out which vehicles are which by yourself? I'm sure you know how to do this...I just don't want to give away free knowledge. I advise you to do the same.
Also you don't seem to have to do this for Blood Gulch. Why?
Seem to have to do what?

Okay, thanks a ton, Deox. You've said enough. This should help a lot. And seriously guys, he's right in not posting the code here. 'Cause then:

1) Stupid people will make this mod and send it to everyone which will only make problems for the Demo Community.

2) We modders who are looking to one day become masters of our trade, learn nothing.

3) It takes all the damn fun out of it! It would be defeating the entire purpose of the "puzzle"!

Now, STFU, stop asking for more help. Figure it out like he did. :D
