Many of you may not know, but the cave portal has been opened. I have recently been working on making it more welcoming. Currently I'm at the point where you are no longer surrounded by pitch black mobs swarming in on you. Yes I used some lava, but safely and in moderation. It was the only way to light the protected area without sunlight (and lava is more reliable than sunlight). Once in the cave spawn you should find a small path with some ladders to the surface arranged in ladder jump formation. If you don't know how to do this, then just walk into the tunnel of light, walk straight at the back wall (not the side walls as those are were the ladders are) and jump. Once on the surface you should find a bed and a crafting table. It's not much of an outpost, but it's a start.

I would prefer safe torches over burning, scolding, flesh-rending lava, but okay.

Torches can't be placed around the spawn.
