Ghr is a much different style than rvs

RvS shows ghr what real-life CQB is... but in ghr, the point is to take out the enemies without giving off your position
being good in RvS won't make u a good player in Ghr

2 very different game types
zomg?! wtf?! lag?! rematch?!

Ghost Recon is a totally different ball game.
Its a much much slower paced style of play, and realy requires 360º of coverage by you and your teammates if you want to win.
I remember my first days of playing that game, i used to get so upset when i got shot by someone i didnt even see, but once you get used to the gameplay, chokepoints and other elements of the game you'll start to get alot better at finding the people before they find you.
Stealth is a major advantage, sneaking by patrols to get to your objective often is the better strategy rather than shooting everything thats in your path.
Its really quite a deep deep game as compared to RvS just becasue there is an SDK for it which lets the community mod it to make it even better. Some of the modders out there have been pushing that engine to the max with some of the stuff they are scripting these days.
SOG often has a ghost recon server up... no respawn games. All of us have Premium so the teamwork factor is there.
Though the graphics engine and gamecontrol is a bit outdated, it still kick arse because of the pace of play and strategy that it requires. There is no other game like it out there. period.
Let me know if you are interested in playin some games with us sometime.

one thing i forgot to mention......
we usually are running mods on the server.
Island Thunder, Frostbite, HX5, Tactical Gamer, and some others. Do you have any of them? If not I'm sure we could run a basic one with Island Thunder only sometime. Lemme know.

*DAMN already hosts all of the files. There is no way I am going to host Frostbite. The mod is way too big, I don't want to have to upload that.

Speaking of Cannon Fodder: after a return to playing Ghost Recon I notice things haven't changed much.... the air is full of RPGs and Rockets. I suspect that for newbies this is like having someone kick a hornet's nest and they are the ones that always get stung, not the nest kickers.
I used to call it something like Radar By Frags - spam the whole map with airborne frags just to see where the tangos are, so that they can get the most kills. That's about as far away from teamwork as you can get. Not very Ghost Recon like IMHO.
Also I still see what where buggy mods 6 months ago, still being hosted, then crashing, by the same hosts.

I guess it depends on the server you join, and the mood of the host for that day. You arent gonna see much of a teamwork atmosphere on at least 50% of the servers using GameRanger..... especially when the servers are running AcK! and BOOM style missions. And if there are multiple respawns (3+) Forget about it!! .......... the people that like to run and gun/spam/etc will be in heaven cause they can run around like chickens with their heads cut off into any battle, and know they have more lives to lose if they die while trying to get the most kills (and die trying). Its your decision to participate in those games.
But..... I have played some great no/one respawn games lately that have been solid gaming experiences. When the server starts running multiple respawns people start goin nuts and reverting to their run & gun tactics.
IMHO, Multiple respawns disturb the whole flow of the game in general.
I'm not a fan of spamming frags, and i can see your point Tim...... Doesn't take to much thought to aim your site high and start unloading MM1 rounds. One thing that it is good for is laying covering spam while you flank the enemy and really accomplish something. =D
I prefer stealth missions that require a little tact, teamwork and communication to sneak around patrols to get to certain objectives, but lets face it.... Im not gonna find a server running what I want to play on gameranger 99% of the time. (at least until Alpha Squad Mod comes out)
Anyway, i kinda went off on a tangent...... my point is there are good games out there, but they arent easy to find. Not everyone is in the same mood at any given moment. My advice would be go into servers with lower expectations.... if teamwork is being used than its all good, if not either join the flow of the game or find another server.

There is one thing we can do to for Ghost Recon to combat this problem that we can't do for Raven Shield and that is to make our own mod. I purpose compiling the best options for a new mod. Like new kit restrictions, certain maps/missions, and maybe gametypes. We could add the Alpha Stealth gametype. This shouldn't be too hard for us since we have all done some modding for Ghost Recon before.

Thats sounds like a good idea........
The problem I see is tryin to get people to use it.
On the other hand:
Alpha Squad is releasing their Mod in a few weeks, and when that's done I think it'll be the closest GhR can get to realism. They have new maps, gametypes, missions, weapons, and all based on "realism". Nothing for spammers here. They want to get it right, thats why the release date has been postponed a few times. Most of the Alpha Squad come from military backgrounds and know what is "real". Maybe we can just wait for that to come out?
