Getting on to HaloMD servers from PC

Hey, I used to play game on mac a long time ago (in a galaxy far away) until I left for university and got a Windows laptop.
How do I get onto an MD server through a PC version of the game?

Just use the direct IP option
Halo > Multiplayer > Join Game > Direct IP

I tried that and it does not let me on to the server.
It might be cause I didn't put the mods in properly. What I did was download the map file and put it into the map folder for Halo. Is there another step I need to take?

I put in the IP for Direct Connect (198.58.124.27:2320) and I try to sign in but it says "Retrying server (1-3)" and then "Can not join server"
Not exact quotes but along those lines.
