Not from people, but from movies/books.

"It is not clear to me that the will of Theoden son of Thengel, though he be the lord of the Mark, should prevail over the will of Aragorn son of Arathorn, Elendil's heir of Gondor."
Aragorn talking about himself in third person just makes me laugh.

Tim O' Brien

Post by Ramone » Thu Dec 16, 2004 4:43 pm

Tim O' Brien writes some really excellent war books. But there more than just war stories they have meaning and purpose to them. Ive read one of his books called The things they Carried and im starting on Going After Cacciato. Theyre really good books that i would recommend to anyone. They take place in the Vietnam War. This makes it realistic because tim o brien was an actuall foot soldier in this war.

The great object of life is Sensation — to feel that we exist — even though in pain — it is this "craving void" which drives us to Gaming — to Battle — to Travel — to intemperate but keenly felt pursuits of every description whose principal attraction is the agitation inseparable from their accomplishment.
-- Lord Byron
people think all we do is lie around and think of how rich we'd be if we didn't think life could improve

I'll reco O'Brien's books too. Vivid. Visceral. Emotive. Captivating. Get *any* of his books. The two mentioned above are good to start with. You won't be able to put them down. I'm not a literary critic but I think they'd be well received here. I really felt like I was the character(s) in his books.
